Jamorama is an online guitar program that was recently updated in early 2014. Most of the reviews online are for the old system which wasn’t as good as what they have now. This guitar program has been around for a while and it’s one of the most well know courses online. Recently I found out that they have completely revamped the lessons from beginner guitar to advanced, put out all new videos and training. Read on below to get all the details!
What You Get
Beginner Guitar Chord Series
In this section, Mark guides you though everything you need to know about playing chords. This is where most beginners struggle, because they don’t have the finger dexterity to execute the chords. So Mark guides you step by step which chords to learn in what order. This really is one of the biggest “breakthroughs” you can have when you start playing guitar.
This section covers most of the major chords, minor chords, 7ths, chord progressions, as well as the basis of the 12 bar blues. An entire world of guitar will open up to you while learning through this section.
15 video lessons show you how to play chords – the fundamentals of playing guitar. You’ll learn to play major, minor, 7th, and barre chords. If you don’t know what any of that means, don’t let it scare you. It’s all explained in detail in the videos. Once you get into it and hear it, you’ll start to understand and it will come together. The best thing about this is once you get these basics down, the names and the technicality just float to the background and you don’t really have to think about it much more – you can just play!
Beginner Guitar Method – Stage 1
This part takes you from ground zero. This part has 45 lessons and goes through all the very basic parts of playing guitar, from how to hold a pick, how to hold your guitar, how to get started playing chords and riffs etc. This leaves nothing behind if you are a beginner and is a great review even if you’ve already started. If you’re already experienced, you can use this as a review or skip this section.
This section has 5 weeks worth of lessons (you can go faster if you want too). My favorite part is the jam alongs, because you can take the theory and the practice you have and turn it into something that is actually like a chord.
Beginner Guitar Method – Stage 2
This takes the foundation skills you learned in section 1 and turns them up a notch, getting into more advanced guitar playing skills like hammer-ons and pull-offs. This part also covers playing different styles of music like Rock, Blues, and Country. Plus this has a jam-along section to it where they give you backing tracks so you can practice with actual music. This is when it starts getting fun.
This section includes lessons on picking patterns for slow rock, 7th chords, 12 bar blues, swing style progressions, country jam alongs, hammer-ons, as well as an introduction to barre chords.
36 videos walk you though how to play fingerstyle guitar like the greats. This section will really turn up your playing a notch – You’ll learn to play in a much more diversified style when you learn to play with your fingers. Lots of folk songs, slow songs, breakdowns, and more use this type of playing
This section includes thumb exercises (since you haven’t played without a pick yet), finger patterns and exercises. It also breaks down the fundamental fingerstyle pattern switching between 4 chords as well as the thumb and chord slap fingerstyle pattern.
The 1 Hour Workout
60 videos show you fundamental practice skills that will lead you to be a better, more technical guitarist. Practicing isn’t fun at first, but if you want to really build your skills, you need to do it. It pays off over time.
This section includes warm ups, strength training, scales training, strumming training, as well as the 1 hour challenge. The 1 hour challenge is a beast and includes all kinds of exercises that will push you to master the fretboard.
Learning speed picking is the beginning of learning to shred. In 8 video lessons, this section takes you through how to do alternate picking and scale runs. This is the section that will get you into doing “impressive” guitar playing, the kind where you can just pick up a guitar and start wailing. One of my favorite sections.
This section includes 42 min worth of lessons on getting your picking speed skills up. This includes how to hold a guitar pick, alternate picking exercises (where you can really speed up your picking), finger variations, single string scales, palm muting and more.
Acoustic Guitar Maintenance
Pretty simply, everything you need to know to take care of your acoustic guitar and keep it functioning properly.
This section includes videos on removing strings, re-strining, and cleaning. You’ll know for sure how to take care of your acoustic with this section.
Everything is now online and accessible in their members area. You can access it on any device – your computer, phone, ipad etc which is really convenient. I personally like to use just my computer but it’s nice to able to have it on the go if you need it.
This is really great because you don’t have to wait for them to ship you anything – you can start learning right away after you sign up. On top of that, you’ll never lose any dvds because you can always log in from wherever you are and access the course.
How much does it cost?
This is one of the cheapest guitar programs out there coming in at only $10 a month for full access to everything, and you can cancel at any time. For only $10, you basically can’t lose. You get all the videos all the time. When you think about how much personal lessons cost, this deal is pretty unbelievable.
You can get months worth of lessons out of this course and do it at your own pace. If you have a lot of time on your hands and want to learn fast, you can totally do that. Or if you want to just take it day-by-day or week-by-week you can do that too.
I checked out this program and I can say they definitely stepped up their game since the last version they had out a few years ago. They have all new videos and now that everything is online, you can access it from anywhere on any device. This course is really good for beginners looking for a full system to get up to speed.
