Guitar Tricks Program Review

Guitar Tricks Review – The Best Course

For anyone that wants to learn guitar, there are about a million options. It can be really overwhelming with so many online resources available, so why what would make you pick one program over another?

The good thing is here at Guitar Spark, we’ve reviewed all the available online guitar courses and found that Guitar Tricks is our number 1 pick, based on a bunch of different factors including quality of lessons, ease of use, price, guarantee, value and more.

Personally, I wish I would have just signed up for Guitar Tricks sooner. I held off buying lessons for a long time because I just didn’t want to pay anything and I thought that I could just learn from free lessons on the internet. That kinda worked for a while, but I never felt like I was progressing very much.

I just bounced around and took a bunch of random lessons. I could play a few new songs but my skills didn’t actually improve. That’s when I decided to join an online guitar program, and I chose Jamorama first.

Jamorama was a good program, but I ultimately ended up with this program because I had surpassed the Jamorama level, and I wanted something more.

The strange thing that happened is that when I actually paid for GT (after my free trial), I started taking it more seriously. I started playing every single day, and I looked forward to logging into the website and devouring the new content.

It was really nice because it was all in one place, and there was a real program for me to follow instead of bouncing around.

After being a member for about 5 months, I decided to write this review. I hope this helps you in your decision of what course to use online!

What is Guitar Tricks?

Guitar Tricks is one of the most popular online programs to learn guitar.

What You Get

I like GT because you can sign up for FREE and get their basic membership which gives you access to 12 instructors and 24 lessons. That’s a lot to get started and check it out.

Sometimes you want to “try before you buy” and this is where Guitar Tricks excels. You can sign up for a free trial and get quite a bit of training before you upgrade. You can check it out and see if you like it with no risk.

When you’re ready you can upgrade to their membership (still cheap as hell) and you’ll get access to an almost overwhelming amount of training. The full access membership gives you access to 45 instructors and 8000 lessons. Yes, 8,000 Lessons!

That’s one thing that’s incredible about this system. You can get so much more value for such a small cost in comparison to going anywhere else.

Ok. Next I want show you how they break down their training:

The whole system is comprised of a few main modules with their Core Learning System:

1. Guitar Fundamentals Level 1 – This is the beginning of the training and includes sub categories as well. You can skip this if you already know this stuff or use it as a refresher in case you missed something. I opted to go through some of the parts.

2. Guitar Fundamentals Level 2. – This is the second section and it gets a little more advanced. I had to watch these videos and practice along because some of this was new to me.

Then this breaks into whatever section you want to start with depending on what you want to learn:

Blues Style Level 1
Learning the fundamentals of blues including the 12 bar blues, chord structure & rythm. I’ve been wanting to play blues for a while and this is a perfect intro.

Blues Style Level 2
In this section, you’ll get more in depth with blues scales and learning the styles of the greats. I really liked how in this section I got to learn about the different styles of the artists that I wanted to play like. They really break it down so you can see what’s happening, and then you can apply the lessons to your own playing style.

Country Style Level 1
In this into to country, you’ll learn barre chord basics and strumming styles. This is a great intro to country music. It’s basic enough that anyone can understand it and provides a solid foundation for getting started.

Country Style Level 1
Here you’ll learn about the CAGED chord system, how to invert chords, as well as hybrid picking styles. If you don’t know what those mean, don’t worry. These videos break it down. You’ll start realizing what guitar players are actually doing when they move their fingers, why they do it and how you can replicate it. This makes learning songs 10000x easier once you know this stuff.

Rock Style Level 1
This section will start you out with Rock Basics, which is rooted in blues music. It walks you though how the 2 are connected and how this transitions into modern theory. Here you’ll learn to riff, as well as learn techniques like palm muting and how to play power chords. I really liked this section because it shows how to just start making up songs on the spot. It’s actually really easy and this shows you how.

Rock Style Level 2
Level 2 takes this up a notch and shows you how to play lead guitar including lead scales and cool techniques like hammer-ons, pull offs and more. If you ever wanted to start a band, this will give you the skills to be able to play along, make up multiple guitar parts (like lead and rythm) and then get a little inventive / interesting with your playing style. You won’t just be playing 4 chords anymore, you’ll learn the spice of how to really start rocking here.

Delivery Method

The whole system is online based and you can access it from any device. This is nice because sometimes I’m on my computer at home and sometimes I’m on my iPad – I watched the lessons from both devices. To be honest you could even watch them from your phone too, but I think the screen would be too small. But in a pinch it could be ok.

You can access all the lessons at once, and progress as fast as you want whether it’s 10 lessons a day or one lesson a week. It’s up to you!

Who is it for?

To be honest, the breadth of Guitar Trick’s lessons range VASTLY. They have thousands of lessons ranging from beginners to advanced. For me, I’m not a total beginner so I just started in the middle and I can tell you they have something for everyone. You’ll get miles of value out of this.

You could probably do a lesson a day for years and never run out of interesting stuff to play.

They do a very good job of covering everything – And that’s hard to say. The thing that is different about Guitar Tricks is they have been around for a long time, so they’ve built up a massive library of instructional videos. Plus, their website has been redesigned recently so it’s all really nicely put together.

How Much Does It Cost

One thing I want to say before I talk about cost is that this is usually a big issue for me. I don’t usually buy things online, so I was hesitant at first. I tried to learn for free from a bunch of random youtube videos and I just didn’t feel like I was progressing like I wanted to.

With Guitar Tricks, they have a laid out progressive program that will guide you though it, and that was the thing that helped me get on track. The fact that I had to pay this little price was worth it.

Plus, I also considered getting lessons from a guy in my town. He was $25 a lesson, and wanted me to take 1 lesson every week, which would be $100 a month.

With guitar tricks, you can get unlimited access to thosands of lessons from 45+ teachers for about the cost of 1 lesson from a local guitar guy. The value of hopping on this program is insane.

Right now, you can actually sign up for FREE for their basic access membership which has limited lessons. For their full access membership it’s usually $29.95 a month but check the website to make sure!

Recommendation

The program is truly one of the best produced programs online. The videos and lessons are supurb quality and it’s hard to compete with it. I know because I’ve seen the other guitar sites online and it’s just too hard to compete with a Juggernaut like GT.

I definitely recommend hopping on Guitar Tricks as soon as possible, you won’t regret it.
